Cuba is a country led by a Fidel Castro who has 11.4 million inhabitants and only 1.4 million of them who have access to the internet. Income per capita in Cuba around USD 17 to USD 20 per month or about Rp. 200 thousands, and most users who only use the computer at school or office. However, they can develop their own linux distro.
Open source operating system is implemented as an effort made to enlarge the influence of Cuba on the market against Amrik computer. And also to avoid the license fees in connection with the use of paying the operating system like Microsoft Windows.
This distribution is called Nova Linux, developed during more than one year by a student at the University of Havana. Spokesperson for the student said that “Cuba now has the device itself to the various institutions to the use of open source software” as reported by TGDaily, Friday (12/2/2009) ago.
Meanwhile Romiro Valder, Minister of Communication Cuban government that has been suggested to use the software is free and opensource says “Obtain greater control over the process of informatics problems that are very important.”
