The German government called for Internet users in the country not to use the Internet Explorer (IE) browser . This appeal is made following a China hacker attack on Microsoft, Google and other American Internet companies.
The attack happened in mid-December that about almost owned all American Internet company, including Google and Microsoft. This attack is later used as an excuse by the German government to urge its citizens to not use IE again in the surf on the internet.
After the appeal was submitted, the Microsoft immediately declared his rebuttal. According to Microsoft, as quoted by MSNBC, Monday (18/1/2010), hacking action that done by the China hackers focused on Google’s email system and not inimical to other Microsoft services, especially Internet Explorer.
“If there are any holes in IE, the problem could be covered by adjusting the internet browser security level to ‘high’. That’s enough,” said the Microsoft.
Unfortunately, BSI remained adamant that IE is dangerous.
“Using IE in a condition ‘secure mode’ is better than off Active Scripting. This will make attacks more difficult in and not necessarily able to protect users,” said the BSI.
Furthermore, a spokesman for Microsoft in Germany, Thomas Baumgaertner said BSI did not understand the reason that equates China attack to Google with IE danger. According to him, China attack to Google is a form of planned attacks and has a specific purpose.
“The attack was not directed directly to end-users or consumers. There is no significant danger to the general usage. We do not agree with this warning,” Baumgaertner said.
