Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will launch triple-core processor for laptops in order to increase the power and performance. Today many laptops are using dual-core processor or quad-core, and by offering triple-core CPU can make the laptop faster than the dual-core but is more efficient than quad-core processors, said Bob Grim, marketing director of AMD. Chip Processor AMD triple-core is planned to be released at the end of the mid-2010.
Previously, AMD had given chip processor for desktop and only dual-core chip for laptops. AMD later expanding into the triple-core chip for laptops, after Intel releases dual-core and quad-core processors for laptops and desktops. Laptop with dual-core processor provides excellent performance, but by adding an extra cores can also add application performance, Grim added.
Triple-core chips AMD will be coded “Danube” and be done with a 45 nanometer manufacturing process. Platform 45 nm process will also be used for the formation of dual-core chip and quad-core. Danube processor is designed to increase laptop battery life is more than an hour, go Grim. The Danube chip will support DDR3 memory form more quickly. AMD will shortly display the first laptop with a chip in the Danube 2010 CES event in Las Vegas. The Danube chip will increase the speed and graphics than Dragon platform.
In addition to the Danube, AMD is also making the latest processor platform for ultra-thin laptop called “Nile”. As for the desktop processor, AMD provides a platform “Leo” with a 6-core, which includes the integration of graphics and a chipset.
